25/2/2020 · Asphalt plants are not exactly known for being silent, unobtrusive locales. Residents have fair concerns about aesthetic problems, increased traffic, and noise pollution. Additionally, the machinery in the plant is often loud and shakes the ground quite a bit.
15/7/2021 · In fact, a major industry survey conducted by the National Association of Paving and Asphalt (NAPA) in 2019 shows significant ways RAP is reducing environmental impact. Their overall conclusion was that the use of RAP in new asphalt mixtures reduced greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 by 2.4 million metric tons of CO2e, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 520,000 passenger vehicles.

The local community has concerns about how the proposed asphalt plant may impact on wildfires. The community is worried that the plant itself might be the cause of a wildfire. In 2018, a Northstate asphalt plant caught fire and severely damaged the plant.
The environmental impacts of producing asphalt mixtures with different percentages of asphalt binder replacement (ABR) are assessed using the technique of life cycle assessment (LCA). In this paper, only the material production phase of the pavement life cycle is considered. To improve the quality of the LCA, a regionalized life cycle inventory (LCI) database for the Northern Illinois region is compiled for the production of various materials used in flexible pavement construction. Data from local questionnaires, published literature, and commercial LCI databases are used to validate and model unit processes with a LCA software. The environmental impacts modeled include energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from producing asphalt binder, recycled asphalt materials, and aggregates as well as from operating hot-mix asphalt plants. Using the regionalized LCI database, a partial LCA is used to investigate the environmental effects of producing asphalt mixtures with increasing ABR contents. Eleven mixes containing varying percentages of recycled asphalt pavement and recycled asphalt …
from an asphalt plant's stack, but in almost all circum-stances this is just steam — the loss of water vapor from the drying of aggregate at high temperatures. Sometimes odors from the heated materials may also emanate from an asphalt plant. Although they
1/5/2016 · The aim is to identify and quantify the environmental impact of each life phase of an asphalt pavement and to make a comparison among these phases. Generally, the environmental impact caused by asphalt pavements is due to the cumulative contributions from the raw material extraction, production, road construction, transportation, use, deposition or reuse phases.
